Hard core KISS fans opinion on Sonic Boom....?

I am a lifelong KISS fan, and I have a friend who is, also. He summed it up perfectly. He said that Paul and Gene are trying too hard to write anthems, instead of songs. Nobody is a KISS fan because of their lyrical depth, but 'Sonic Boom' is weak. Musically, it's not bad, but it's not in my top 10 KISS albums. Probably not even top 20.
