What chords should i learn next?

i am taking a guitar cl at my school. the instructor lets us pick what we want to learn (it's one on one lessons). i told him i want to learn the basic chords (maj. min. & 7th) next semester i will be taking the course again to learn more. after major, minor and 7th chords, which are the next i should learn? i probably will want to refine the chords i learn as it is an 11 wk course (fall and spring are 16 wks), but what chords should i set out to learn after?
