Is Revelations written in such a riddle, because...?

We are not meant to truly understand what will happen? If God wanted us to understand exactly what was to happen, wouldn't it have been written in a more straightforward manner...instead of being left up to interpretation? I hate to say it, but it sounds like it was written by a guy that was smoking something funky. By the way I believe and trust in God wholeheartedly... but some things just make me say.."um, what?"
