Few words on Gandhi- The father of nation?

@vane . . . Gandhi born a high-caste Hindu, was educated in England. There he learned Western ideas of democracy and nationalism. He became the spiritual leader of the Indian independence movement. To the mes of India, he was the Mahatma, or "saintly one," and was revered as a prophet. Gandhi urged his followers to combat British rule, not with violence but with pive resistance, also called non-cooperation or civil disobedience. This meant rejecting offers of government positions, disregarding British laws, refusing to pay taxes, shunning army service, and boycotting British-made goods. Gandhi believed that pive resistance would make British rule troublesome and ineffective, and would compel England to withdraw from India. Gandhi also urged improving the status of the untouchables, and producing goods by India's ancient hand methods. Gandhi was inated in 1948 by a Hindu fanatic.
